AKIE – PERSONAL PROJECT - WEB - PHYSICAL OBJECT

Akie

My first intention with AKIE was to create a furniture generator based on IKEA’s iconic shelving 'Expedit'.

I coded a raw generator, which could multiply the numbers of configurations choices, using 'Expedit' standard assemblage pieces. After the user explored the possibilities and chose his/her favorite furniture design, an assembly instructions brochure could be printed out.

I later developed a prototype software for AKIE, and launched a video presentation, based on a imaginary event, where visitors were invited to build their own AKIE furniture.

Some of the initial research around the furniture generation. Grids, composed of individual pieces of the EXPEDIT shelf, are created randomly by a generator programmed with a few chosen rules.
